I’ve been where you are -
And I can help!
a message from Wendy Johnstone
I’m Wendy Johnstone, owner of Keystone Eldercare Solutions.
I know there’s never a convenient time to discover that your aging parents suddenly need you to take care of them. I’ve been there, both with my father and my grandmother.
Becoming a caregiver for an aging relative can be stressful. You need to make important decisions, but you don’t necessarily have the time to fully research or understand your options. If you’re like I was, you’re probably wondering where you can turn to for help.
You don’t have to go through this alone. I’ve been where you are, and I can help.
My unique path to eldercare planning
Although I’ve worked professionally with seniors and their caregivers for more than 15 years, my path toward eldercare planning began when I was just six years old. That’s when my grandmother, “Nana J,” began caring for me so that my mom could go back to work.
That special time with my grandmother helped shape who I am today. I spent much of my childhood surrounded by seniors – walking the boardwalk with Nana J and her friends, playing cards at the local seniors’ centre and simply soaking up Nana J’s seemingly infinite wisdom. I quickly learned a lot about the aging process, both the positive aspects and the challenges.
When Nana J lost her battle with cancer at the age of 92, I decided to honour her memory by using her modest bequest to complete a Master’s Degree in Gerontology (the study of aging and the particular social, psychological and biological changes and challenges faced by seniors).
Let me help you help the ones you love
Today, I use my skills as a trained gerontologist and eldercare planner to help others provide care for their aging relatives. I know how to recognize each senior’s unique needs, and I have particular expertise working with stroke survivors and people living with Parkinson’s disease and dementia.
I know how to navigate the complex web of social and health care services that can be intimidating at best and overwhelming at worst. Perhaps most importantly, though, I’m able to take an otherwise stressful situation – being thrust into the role of care provider for your aging parents – and make it simple and straightforward.
I’m here to help.
